City of Muncie offers tenants assistance

MUNCIE, Ind. (NewsLink)- The City of Muncie is helping those financially affected by the pandemic. The city is working together with Bridges Community Services to provide rent and utility assistance programs for tenants.

“In order to qualify for this [program], you do have to be able to show that you have either lost income or your work hours have been out or your medical costs have gone up due to COVID-19,” said Bridges Community Services Executive Director Samantha Buckles.

The program opened applications on November 2, 2020. City of Muncie is offering assistance for applicants with unpaid rent starting from March 13 through Dec. 31 including unpaid utility bills from March 13 through Nov. 16. Internet and cable bills are not included.

“The families who have higher numbers are the highest priority right now,” Buckles said.

Other options are available for applicants not accepted through the program. ESG-CV Prevention Program applications are open through the state.

This tenant-based rental assistance program is possible in Muncie through monetary award and the CARES act.

Tenants can apply for the program here.
