Wapahani Volleyball wins sectional title

MUNCIE, IN (NewsLink) -- The Wapahani Volleyball revenge tour is underway. The next stop, the Elwood regional. Wapahani claimed their second straight sectional championship on Saturday, defeating Frankton.

The real scare, however, was their sectional semi-final match against Alexandria-Monroe. The team trailed 12-7 in the fifth set before rallying for the win. Wapahani hopes to finish what they started last year, when they lost in the state final.

“I don't even think the goal is to get back,” said Head Coach Kati Weir. “I think the goal is to win. It brought a different kind of hunger. To walk away for us, it leaves a deep sense of 'we need to get back in the gym and get back at it.”

The team is incredibly young, boasting only one senior. Players from the Warriors’ stellar sophomore class lead the team in every significant statistical category.

“Having a young team, we are really close,” claims standout sophomore, middle-blocker Camryn Wise. “And having our one senior she's done a good job teaching us what it's like to step into big roles. We all have each other’s back on the court, so it's more of a team effort.”

The Warriors will take on South Adams at noon, Saturday at Elwood High School. They hope the revenge tour won’t have to stop early.
