Beginning Wednesday August 5, parents of Muncie Community Schools (MCS) students can check out internet devices and portable hot spots to be used for virtual learning.
MCS will provide devices to both students in fully remote learning through the district’s new virtual learning program and those enrolled in in-person teaching. Students enrolled in in-person teaching will receive devices during the first day of classes on August 11.
Nearly 800 students are enrolled in the new virtual learning program, which will operate during the same times as in-person learning and attendance will be taken of remote students. MCS’ Reopening Plan says virtual students will learn from Schoology, which was used this spring when schools closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Parents or guardians of students registered for fully remote learning can check out devices and hot spots from the MCS Administration Building at 4301 S. Cowan Rd. at the following times:
Wednesday, Aug. 5: 9 – 11 a.m. and 1 – 3 p.m.
Thursday, Aug. 6: 9 – 11 a.m., 1 – 3 p.m. and 4 – 6 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 7: 9 – 11 a.m., 1 – 3 p.m. and 4 – 6 p.m.
Parents are asked to wear a face mask and provide valid identification while checking out devices.
iPads will be checked out for kindergarten, first and second grade students and Chromebooks will be provided for students grades 3-12. Portable hot spots are available for students without reliable internet connections.
An orientation will be held on the first day of school, August 11, to ensure students and teachers understand the virtual format.
