Muncie to reopen services at gradual pace

Starting Monday, lockdown regulations in Muncie will lessened and a gradual process to reopen city services, businesses and public areas will begin.

According to a City of Muncie press release, people are still expected to follow social distancing guidelines and are encouraged to continue using masks.

The press release states all full-time city employees are working in some capacity, with some working remotely. Masks are required for guests to enter city buildings, and both city employees and guests will have their temperatures taken.

According to a Facebook post by the Delaware County Health Department, based on Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb’s plan to reopen the businesses in Indiana, groups and meetings with no more than 25 people are permitted when practicing social distancing guidelines. Religious services are open as long as the guidelines are followed.



Muncie parks are open to the public, however, playground equipment, tennis courts and basketball courts are not yet open, the press release states.

Manufacturing and construction services are open. Retail businesses and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles are also now open with 50 percent capacity. Office workers are recommended to work remotely. Local, non-essential travel is now permitted.

Restaurants and bars will open May 11 with 50 percent capacity, but bars are not allowed to offer bar seating or live entertainment. The graphic states tattoo parlors, salons and other similar services will also open May 11 by appointment only.

Prairie Creek Reservoir is open for boating activities, permitted social distancing guidelines are followed, and RV camping is allowed as well. However, overnight primitive and non-seasonal camping is not allowed. The docks and piers at Prairie Creek are still going through construction, according to the release, but they should be open on May 15. 

Starting May 24, playgrounds, tennis courts and basketball courts will be open to the public. Groups and meetings with no more than 100 people will be permitted as well, the release states.

Remote working for city employees will end June 14. Groups and meetings with no more than 250 people will be allowed. Tuhey Pool will also open for business.

Starting July 4, both the City of Muncie and Prairie Creek firework shows are expected to take place in compliance with social distancing guidelines.
