Help needed for a special prom

MUNCIE, Ind. (NewsLink) - The closing of Muncie Southside High School in 2014 didn’t keep two mothers of special needs children from hosting the annual special needs prom.

Lynne Hatfield and Mindy Kemper have hosted the prom for the last four years and this year, they are expecting their largest group yet. With an expected 1,000 attendees, they are reaching out to the community for donations and volunteers.

Donations will go toward food, decorations, a DJ, activities and more. Volunteers will help with setting up and tearing down the prom.

The Delaware County Special Needs Prom is May 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Memorial Building located at the Delaware County Fairgrounds. To attend, participants must be at least a freshman in high school. There is no maximum age limit.

To help Hatfield and Kemper reach their $25,000 goal or for more information such as how to reserve a spot, visit the Delaware County Special Needs Prom website.
