Shaheen Borna, marketing professor at Ball State, will not be teaching classes for the remainder of the semester, said Kathy Wolf, vice president of marketing and communications, in an email.
This decision, Wolf said, is in the best interest of Borna and the university.
She said the Stephen Ferris, dean of the Miller College of Business, in consultation with Susana Rivera-Mills, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, made this decision "to ensure that we provide continuity in the curriculum, eliminate any unnecessary distractions, and help our students complete the appropriate course expectations."
Borna was involved in the classroom incident Jan. 21 when he had university police called on Sultan "Mufasa" Benson, senior business administration major, for refusing to change seats during class.

On Jan. 28, members of the Ball State community gathered on University Green for a walkout protesting the incident.

Previously, Ball State President Geoffrey Mearns, in a campus-wide email sent after the incident, said Ferris established corrective actions — including appropriate training and oversight for Borna following the incident.
