MUNCIE, Ind. (NewsLink)- Last semester, 40 bicycles were stolen from Ball State's campus, according to University Police.

Ball State Cpl. Travis Stephens said that there is a right and wrong way to lock your bike on campus.

"Try to get a quality lock, like a U-Bolt style lock, versus the cable lock. The cable locks tend to be easy to cut. U-locks tend to be a little bit stronger and I've never seen one of them be cut," said Stephens.

Stephens said registering your bike might not sound like fun, but it can help you in the long run.

"[The] serial number on your bike is just like a VIN on your car and registering it is just as important. It helps us identify that bike to you, so should we find that bike laying on the side of the road or find the person we think stole the bike, it allows us to call the victim back," said Stephens.
