Ball State University Students Get Time in Spotlight at Indianapolis Film Festival

Five Ball State Telecommunications students have partnered with WTHR, Channel 13, to cover an Indianapolis tradition. The Heartland International Film Festival is Indiana’s largest and longest running film festival. The 11-day festival began on October 10.

On Thursday evening, Heartland Film held an Announcement Party at Newfields, the museum of art. The six Ball State students worked to create on-air content for Channel 13.

Robert Brookey, a Ball State professor, chose six students to help with this partnership.

All students were given specific roles to create the content:
Nate Ammon, producer and director
Mick Tidrow, producer and director
Marlee Thomas, on-air reporter
Grace Fu, location producer
Keith Green, camera operator and lighting technician
Andre Guimaraes, audio engineer and camera operator.

Ball State Student, Nate Ammon, is serving as the producer and director for the on-air content. Ammon was excited to be a part of the partnership project  with Channel 13.

“I saw it would be a great opportunity for what I want to do after graduating and Indy is one of the places I’m considering working,” Ammon says.

While hundreds of people gathered at Newfields for the events, the students worked together to create a variety of broadcast content. The content is available to watch on the 13Now App on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and Roku.

Ball State student, Andre Guimaraes, is also participating in the partnership project. Guimaraes is excited to be one of the students working on this project. He hopes the students can create the best content possible.

“I really want to make sure the content we create is the best we can make since we have professionals counting on us,” Guimaraes says.

The students went back to Newfields Museum of Art on October 10, to cover the Heartland Film’s first official night of the event.
