Ball State Gymnastics begins rigorous training program

MUNCIE, Ind. (NewsLink) — Ball State Gymnastics is beginning official practices to kick off their preseason. The team was just cleared to start practicing 20 hours a week.

In order to prepare for the season, the team has been working on a lot of conditioning, as well as working on new skills individually, according to head coach Johanna Saleem.

The gym is not the only place the team has been growing, the girls have done lots of team bonding as well.

“Each team is pretty unique. So with the 6 new freshmen coming in, we’ve been spending a little bit of time with each other,” Saleem said.

The Cardinals plan on working hard in practice every day and giving each day their all.

“We have a lot of potential,” Coach Saleem explained, “Our expectations will be that we’re going to go in every day and give everything that we have in practice and continue to build throughout the preseason and then be ready for that first competition.”

The team’s Red and White competition is in early December at Worthen Arena. Their first official meet of the season takes place at the University of Iowa on the weekend of Jan. 13.
