PENDLETON, IN(NewsLink) - A man was shot by his father Monday evening after holding his family against their will in their home.

Madison County police are currently investigating the shooting that occurred around 9:30 p.m. at the 300 block of East 1000 South in Pendleton.

Hunter Holloway, 25, threatened his family with a shotgun for several hours after an altercation he had with his family earlier in the day, according to Sheriff Scott Mellinger.

Holloway’s family tried to calm him down, but failed. The father managed to distract Holloway long enough to run to a different room within the home and retrieve his handgun, Mellinger said.

“The two confronted each other and Hunter pointed the shotgun at his father. His father then fired one round from the handgun, striking Hunter near the abdomen,” Mellinger said.

Holloway was given first aid by responding officers until an ambulance dispatched from Adams Township arrived. He was then transported to St. Vincent Anderson and later airlifted to St. Vincent’s in Indianapolis. According to Mellinger, Holloway is in critical condition, but expected to survive. The investigation is ongoing.
