Ball State a cappella group heading to New York

Ball State’s mixed singing a cappella group Sedoctave is making their debut in the Big Apple. The singing group has competed in two competitions placing first in both, in order to move on to the finals of the International Competition of Collegiate A Cappella in New York City.

There are five premier a cappella groups on Ball State’s campus. Sedoctave is the fourth group to be formed, but the first to make it to the finals.

The group has been practicing three times or more a week since the beginning of the January prior to the competition. Sedoctave went into semi-finals in St. Louis wanting to win a title, but never expected to win and move on to the next round.  Molly O’Conner, Sedoctave’s coordinator says their hard work and dedication is what helped the group make it this far.

“It’s been kind or surreal that we have this opportunity to move on and winning was just a huge confirmation of all the hard work we’ve been putting in,” said O’Conner.

The competition is taking place on April 28 at the Play Station theater in New York. Sedoctave has a GoFundMe page to help pay for their travel accommodations. If you would like to make a donation, please visit https://www.gofundme.com/sedoctave
