After being drawn out for more than a month, Ball State's 2019 Student Government Association (SGA) election is nearing the end with the final round of voting between two SGA slates — Empower and Elevate.
The second round of voting is open 8 a.m. Monday to 5 p.m. Tuesday with the winning slate declared shortly afterwards. Ball State students can vote via a link sent to them by SGA in a campus-wide email. Students can also vote in person at on-campus voting booths from 8 a.m. to noon at the L.A. Pittenger Student Center and noon to 3 p.m. at Bracken Library on both days.

This round of voting comes after a runoff election was declared when none of the three original slates secured a majority of the student vote. With 22.27 percent, or 543 votes, the United slate was eliminated from the final round of voting.
Elevate with 39.79 percent, or 970 votes, and Empower with 36.59 percent, or 892 votes, were the two slates that advanced to the next round, each vying to get a majority in this round of voting.

Prior to the second round of voting, Empower and Elevate also took part in the an All-Slate Debate March 11 — the second debate of that format and the fourth debate of the 2019 SGA election season.

Over the course of the 2019 SGA election, all three slates were fined for various campaign violations. Initially, Empower was fined $125, Elevate fined $100 and United $50. Following the first round of voting, Empower was fined another $40, bringing its total fines to $165.

With 2,438 total student votes, this year's first round of voting had a higher turnout than the 2018 election's 1,172 total votes. However, with a 11.14 percent voter turnout, the first round of voting in the 2019 SGA election had the fourth lowest voter turnout in the past five years.

Both Elevate and Empower will be holding watch parties March 19 in anticipation of the final results of 2019's month-long SGA election.
