Popcorn is one food that many like to enjoy both sweet and salty. Often paired with butter and salt or chocolate, popcorn can easily adapt to most flavor palettes. 

If you are looking for some inspiration on new recipes to try for this national holiday or you just need to know how to make the classic, these recipes can help you celebrate. 

Buttered Popcorn:

What you need:

  • 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • ⅔ cup unpopped popcorn kernels
  • A large pan with tight fitting lid
  • Stove
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • Salt

Directions:

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan on medium heat.
  2. When it begins to pop and sizzle, poor in the popcorn kernels and put the lid on top.
  3. After you hear the kernels begin to pop, hold the lid shut tight with an oven mitt and shake the pot back and forth every few seconds.
  4. When the popping slows down, shut off the heat. 
  5. Remove the lid from the pan, drizzle with the butter and sprinkle salt on the popcorn to taste. 
  6. Put in a bowl and enjoy. 

Pizza Popcorn

What you need:

  • 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • ⅔ cup unpopped popcorn kernels 
  • A large pan with tight fitting lid
  • Stove
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • ½ clove of garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • 1 cup diced pepperoni
  • Salt

Directions:

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan on medium heat.
  2. When it begins to pop and sizzle, poor in the popcorn kernels and put the lid on top.
  3. After you hear the kernels begin to pop, hold the lid shut tight with an oven mitt and shake the pot back and forth every few seconds.
  4. When the popping slows down, shut off the heat. 
  5. Remove the lid from the pan. 
  6. In a microwave safe bowl, melt the butter with the garlic.
  7. Add in the oregano and stir. 
  8. Poor the popped popcorn into the bowl with the butter. 
  9. Gently toss to mix until all pieces are well coated. 
  10. Mix in the diced pepperoni. 
  11. Enjoy. 

Toffee Chocolate Popcorn

What you need:

  • 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • ⅔ cup unpopped popcorn kernels
  • A large pan with tight fitting lid
  • Stove
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • ½ cup slivered almonds
  • 1 cup dried cherries
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup butter
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup chocolate chips
  • Baking sheet
  • Another medium saucepan

Direction:

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan on medium heat.
  2. When it begins to pop and sizzle, poor in the popcorn kernels and put the lid on top.
  3. After you hear the kernels begin to pop, hold the lid shut tight with an oven mitt and shake the pot back and forth every few seconds.
  4. When the popping slows down, shut off the heat. 
  5. Remove the lid from the pan. 
  6. Pour the cooked popcorn into a bowl. 
  7. Mix in almonds and cherries. 
  8. Evenly spread the mixture onto a baking sheet. Set aside. 
  9. Put corn syrup, sugar, butter and salt into a medium saucepan. 
  10. Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat and boil for two minutes. 
  11. When smooth and combined, pour over the popcorn mixture. 
  12. Sprinkle chocolate chips over top. 
  13. Let the whole thing cool until hardened. 
  14. Break into pieces and enjoy. 

Dill pickle popcorn

What you need:

  • 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • ⅔ cup unpopped popcorn kernels
  • A large pan with tight fitting lid
  • Stove
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons dried coriander
  • 2 teaspoons dried dill
  • ½ teaspoon ground mustard
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon citric acid

Direction:

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan on medium heat.
  2. When it begins to pop and sizzle, poor in the popcorn kernels and put the lid on top.
  3. After you hear the kernels begin to pop, hold the lid shut tight with an oven mitt and shake the pot back and forth every few seconds.

  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the ground coriander, dried dill, ground mustard, garlic powder, and citric acid. 
  7. Pour popped popcorn in a bowl and drizzle with melted butter. 
  8. Sprinkle mixed spices over top and mix until well-coated. 
  9. Enjoy.
