Ball State Field Hockey (0-4, 0-0 MAC) will match up with the Ohio State Buckeyes (2-2, 0-0 Big Ten) Friday and the Lehigh Mountain Hawks (0-3, 0-0 Patriot League) Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.

The Cardinals are back on the road after two consecutive losses last weekend to Dartmouth, 5-1 and Iowa, 7-1. While neither game was close, there are still plenty of positives to take from the two games.

Sophomore forward Abby Ferenczy scored the first goal of the season for the Cardinals in the game against Dartmouth. Redshirt sophomore forward Sierra Jefferson scored for the Cardinals in the game against Iowa the next day. Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Chavez recorded a season-high 13 saves against Iowa.

Two goals in two games is a major step for a team that went scoreless in its first week of the new season. In four games, the Cardinals have attempted a combined 22 shots while opposing teams have attempted 80.

The team’s inconsistencies have been a common theme. Throughout the season, the Cardinals have had rough starts but finish strong. In the game against Iowa, the Cardinals allowed six goals in the first half. The Cardinals only allowed one goal in the second half.

Ohio State returns home after defeating Boston University 4-2. Ball State last faced the Buckeyes in 2016, where the Cardinals lost at home 3-0.

Lehigh is coming off a 7-3 road loss to Villanova. Two of its three goals were scored by Leah Mullery. The team had 11 shot attempts. The Mountain Hawks last faced Ball State in 2017, a matchup that earned the Cardinals 1 of their 5 wins of the season. Neither team has a win in 2018, so a heated matchup should be expected.

Sophomore midfielder Allison Parker is still maintaining a positive attitude despite the rough start.

“I’m excited and can’t wait to see what we can do,” Parker said.

Ball State’s quest for its first victory of 2018 continues Friday, Sept. 7, against Ohio State at 4 p.m. The Cardinals will play Lehigh Saturday, Sept. 8, at 12 p.m.
