Field Hockey drops season opener to Saint Francis

Kicking off their 2018 season, Ball State Field Hockey (0-1, 0-0 MAC) took on Saint Francis (1-0, 0-0  A10) in Oxford, OH. After falling into a 3-0 hole early, the Cardinals were unable to recover a fell to the Red Flash, 4-0.  

Quick goals in the first 20 minutes from freshman Atina Pagani, junior Taylor Nesmith and junior Livvy Webb gave the Red Flash the early advantage. Senior Brea Seabrook slammed the door on the Cardinals in the final minutes to give the Red Flash the win. 

The Cardinals struggled on offense registering only four shots, with only three shots on goal, to the Red Flashes 24 shots and 11 shots on goal. The Cardinals showed strength on defense with sophomore goaltender Grace Chavez making seven saves on 11 shots. Both teams avoided drawing fouls in the match. 

The Cardinals will take on the Indiana Hoosiers on Sunday in their first home match of the season. The Cardinals fell to the Hoosiers last season, 2-1, in Bloomington. The Hoosiers are coming off a 2-1 loss to No. 8 Louisville. 

The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Briner Sports Complex.
