New businesses have been moving into spaces in The Village. Where one used to be able to fix a broken phone, they’ll now be able to cure sweet tooth.

The Queer Chocolatier, which opened for business on South Walnut Street in 2017, will be opening its doors in The Village within the upcoming weeks.

“The Village has a lot of fabulous potential and we are also able to consolidate and expand our production processes in our space at the Village,” said co-owner and head queer Morgan Roddy. “We are building out our kitchen, laying out the seating areas and bringing all of our online shipping logistics under one roof which is an exciting development for our business.”

In March, Roddy said they closed their downtown location to, “have a more visible and accessible space.”

The Queer Chocolatier will continue to make truffles and expand into “all things chocolate.”

A Saturday morning brunch item will be featured at the store and will be announced during the opening.

“We conducted Guided Chocolate Tasting Events which were well-received,” Roddy said. “We plan to continue offering those as well as add additional chocolate-centric educational events.”

The store will still sell “homo decor” art pieces, which Roddy said are “small decorative items to warm the homes of those who are queer and/or trans.”

In addition to Queer Chocolatier,  Hoku Poke, which offers bowls and bubble teas, moved into the spaced which was previously occupied by the Let’s Spoon.

The locally-owned Hawaiian cuisine restaurant serves what employees say can be described as a “raw fish salad or a deconstructed sushi bowl.”

“Hoku Poke was opened in the village because an influential part of the Muncie population is the students of Ball State, because of this it made sense to open up a “cultural experience” within walking distance of campus,” said manager Christina Guy in an email.

A banner for Caffébene Indiana, located in the 1600 block of West University Avenue, has been hung on the building saying it is “coming soon,” but the exact opening date is unknown.
