Cohen Peace Conference to focus on recovery and relationships

Starting Friday evening and continuing through Saturday, the third Benjamin V. Cohen Peace Conference will be held at the Alumni Center. 

The conference is dedicated to Benjamin Victor Cohen, a Muncie resident who dedicated his life to finding peaceful resolutions to worldwide conflicts. 

This year's conference, themed "Peacemakers: People, Politics, and Possibilities," will begin with a talk from Lawrence H. Gerstein, director of the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at 6:45 p.m.  

Friday will be highlighted by a town hall discussion with President Geoffrey S. Mearns and Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler from 7-8 p.m. 

Saturday will kick off with a keynote speech about addiction and recovery from Linda Daniel, clinical director for inpatient behavioral health at the Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital, in the Alumni Center 9 a.m.  

There will be several breakout sessions throughout the day regarding the topic of peace in different rooms of the center as well as poster presentations in the atrium and commons area. 

Lunch will be served at noon while Sister Norma Rocklage, executive director for education formation outreach at Marian University, will deliver the second keynote speech of the day titled, "Practicing Peace: Challenging Steps to Dialogue." 

Breakout sessions will resume from 2-4 p.m. followed by a live dance performance. 

Registration for Friday's events will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday registration will begin at 8 a.m. in the Alumni Center Lobby. A link to the event program can be found here.
