In the first meet of the new year, the Ball State men’s swim and dive lost to IUPUI, Xavier and the University of Indianapolis.

In the events talked about in the preview, all three of the 100-yard backstroke swimmers (freshman Spencer Ball and sophomores Logan Ackley and Chase Jackson) defeated junior Rodrigo Codo Berti from UIndy. Ball went a 54.42, Ackley a 53.19 and Jackson a 57.21.

In his 200-yard butterfly matchup with freshman Mark Auger, sophomore Adam Pongracz finished in 12th place (2:02.36), while Auger won the event (1:53.16).

The 200-yard breaststroke, where junior Cullen Tyler carried a one meet winning-streak from the EMU Invite, didn’t favor the Cardinals. Tyler finished in fourth place with a time of 2:13.56.

Freshman Trey Mathesis finished in ninth place with 169.05 points.

The Cardinals return to action in a dual meet against defending Mid-American Conference Champions Eastern Michigan on Jan. 13 at Lewellen Aquatic Center.
