University Program Board hosts Open Mic Night

The Ball State University Program Board wants a wide range of acts to perform at the annual Open Mic Night, which will be held from 9 to 11 p.m. tonight at the Arts and Journalism patio.

“Those who dance, rap, do poetry, magic, play an instrument are more than welcomed to perform,” UPB’s Vice President for Administration, Diamonds Holsey, said. “We don't limit anyone's talent. A lot of the time when people hear ‘open-mic night’ they assume they have to sing in order to participate, which isn't true.”

While official sign-ups were closed at 5 p.m. yesterday, students still wishing to participate will have a chance to do so after all signed up acts have performed.

Currently only a singer and a musician are signed up, but Assistant Director for Programs Scott Carrico said the most sign-ups occur right before the event.

“People should participate for two main reasons: to support their friends/peers and to enjoy a relaxing evening,” Holsey said. “Students put a lot of work into their performance and it's always fun to see a variety of talent.”

Refreshments will be provided to those who attend. In the event of rain, the event will be moved to the Student Center.
