Rodney "Rod" Davis — a former icon in the Miller College of Business as a student, professor and administrator  — died Monday at the age of 70.

"We are saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Rodney Davis, a longtime member of the Ball State family," Interim President Terry King said in an email sent out to students and staff Friday morning. "He was an outstanding example of a good friend, teacher, faculty member, and leader, but I will remember him most for his dedication to helping others."

Davis graduated from Ball State with a master's degree in business education in 1970. He then taught at the university as a professor in the Department of Business Education and Office Administration, which is now the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management, from 1974 until his retirement in 2016.

During his time at Ball State, Davis also served as the department chair from 1986 to 2001. He was Miller College's interim dean from 2007 to 2009.

Davis was living in San Antonio, Texas, at the time of his passing, according to bsu.edu

"Rod was a close friend to many on campus and throughout the community. He will be missed," King said.
