The absence of almost 60 democratic politicians did not hinder the peaceful transfer of power to Donald Trump as he became the 45th president of the United States Jan. 20.
In his inaugural speech, Trump addressed America and assured the people of what is to come.
“Today we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another, or from one party to another, but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the people,” Trump said.
The newly elected president began his speech by focusing on the "forgotten Americans," referring to women and children living in poverty-stricken areas, such as Detroit.
“For too many of our citizens a different reality exists ... mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities," Trump said. "Rusted out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation. Education system flushed with cash but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of all knowledge. And the crime, and the gangs and the drugs that have stolen too many lives and have robbed our country from so much unrealized potential. This American carnage stops right here, and stops right now.”
Trump went on to discuss how he will make America its own priority once again. Trump said every plan discussed and decision made under his administration on taxes, immigration and foreign affairs will be to benefit America and its people.
"From this day forward, it is going to be only America first, America first," he said.
Trump showed a theme of optimism throughout his speech.
“I will fight for you with every breath in my body and I will never, ever let you down America will start winning again,” Trump said.
In a nation divided, Trump asked for unity. He said in America, no matter your skin color, everyone “bleed[s] the same red blood of patriotism.”
“Together we will make America strong again," Trump said. "We will make America wealthy again. We will make America proud again. We will make America safe again. And yes, together, we will make America great again.”

Azzarello was extinguished and rushed away by emergency services. He is in critical condition at Weill Cornell Medicine - Burn Center, according to a press conference held by the New York Police Department (NYPD).
