Ball State will make the tournament with either an Ohio win or a Longwood loss. If Longwood wins and Ohio loses, there will be a three-way tie for two spots. Tiebreakers will determine which two teams get in.

Ohio at Miami — 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 29

Longwood vs. Central Michigan — 3 p.m. on Oct. 29

Ball State field hockey beat Central Michigan 3-1, but its chances at making the Mid-American Conference Tournament haven't gotten any clearer.

The Cardinals are currently fourth in the MAC and hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over fifth-place Longwood (2-3 MAC, 8-8 overall), but if Longwood wins Oct. 29 and Ohio (3-2 MAC, 6-10 overall) loses, there will be a three-way tie for third place.

Ohio beat Ball State earlier in the season but also lost to Longwood, so all three teams would have a 1-1 record against each other.

But Ball State did its part against the Chippewas. Senior Lexi Kavanaugh scored her fifth goal of the season to put the Cardinals up 2-0 in the 51st minute. Central Michigan cut the lead to one in the 66th minute, but couldn't come back.

One minute after the Chippewas' goal, Hannah Bohn scored her third goal of the season to put the Cardinals up 3-1.

Redshirt junior Merinda Morley opened up the scoring from the Cardinals early in the second half with her second goal of the season.

After the games Oct. 29 — Ohio plays at Miami at 12:30 p.m. and Longwood hosts Missouri State at 3 p.m. — the MAC will release its tournament brackets.
