Ball State softball wins home opener to Ohio 2-1

Both starting pitchers went the full game and for kept the bats quiet throughout. 

Ball State’s senior pitcher Nicole Steinbach went seven innings allowing one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts. With the win on April 1, Steinbach pushed her record to a team-best 12-7, all 12 of her wins coming in complete game fashion.

For Ohio, junior pitcher Savannah Dorsey went six innings with seven strikeouts, allowing three hits while letting in two earned runs.

Junior outfielder Indian Steward got the Cardinals off to a quick 1-0 start at the plate with her third home run of the season in the first inning.

Ohio would tie the game in the fifth with a double from freshman Michaela Dorsey that drove in fellow freshman Alex Day, who singled to lead off the inning.

Key hits came late for the Cardinals when senior shortstop Emily Dabkowski doubled and was driven in by the next batter, junior Rachel Houck.

Steinbach retired each of the three Ohio batters in the seventh inning to seal the victory.

Ball State softball completes the three-game series against Ohio starting at 11 a.m. April 2.
