Each year, Ball State football announces two honorary captains for its annual Spring Football Game. This years captain include former wide receiver Jeff Hammond (1986-89) and linebacker Mark Parris (1989-92).
Jeff Hammond
In his final season in a Ball State uniform, Hammond led the Cardinals to a 1989 Mid-American Conference Championship. During his four seasons, Hammond brought in 32 receptions for 496 yards and two touchdowns, both of which came his senior year.
Hammond graduated Ball State the year before head coach Mike Neu came in to play.
Mark Parris
Parris began his football career a year before Neu in Muncie, on the other side of the ball.
During his final two seasons at Ball State he earned two All-MAC accolades as a linebacker (1991, 92).
He began his junior season against Miami with a career-high 22 tackles. His momentum would career him through that season as was a finalist for the MAC Vern Smith Award.
As a senior, Parris racked up 178 tackles, which still ranks fifth all-time in single season program records.
Ball State’s Spring Game will begin promptly at 3 p.m. at Scheumann Stadium on April 23. Admission will be free.

Bearcat pitching struggles lead to Muncie Central loss at Delta in Delaware County baseball clash

Delta will be on the road for its next contest against Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Shelbyville April 23 at 6 p.m. Muncie Central will travel to Muncie Burris for its next matchup, also April 23 at 6 p.m.
