After discussion, Ball State faculty members voted to withdraw their proposed transparency resolution for the Board of Trustees at the Faculty Council meeting April 7.

Some faculty said that they agreed with the withdrawal of the resolution because of progress the Board of Trustees has made towards transparency.

Andy Beane, the council's current vice chairperson and acting chairperson, said there is ongoing communication between faculty leadership and the board.

"What is happening is open dialogue at this point," he said. "It's frank conversations, as far as I understand it."

Beane also said that he is working with other university governance leaders, Acting President Terry King, and the Board of Trustees on creating a joint resolution towards increased communication and transparency.

Some other council members said that they were wary of withdrawing the resolution because they weren't sure if their voices and concerns were being heard by the board.

Amy Harden, associate professor in the department of family and consumer sciences and member of the council, said that any concerns faculty members have made known have been shared with the Board of Trustees by faculty governance leaders.

"The goal of this position, Andy's position, is to represent the faculty," Harden said. "It's to best represent all – not just his personal opinion."

Beane said that he is currently asking for any more concerns faculty may have to present to the Board of Trustees. He will have a meeting with them on April 15.

Though the Faculty Council's resolution has been withdrawn, University Senate still has a similar resolution for the Board of Trustees tabled for a later date.
