This year's elections board was approved at the Jan. 27 meeting.

Elections board Chair Casey Miller told the SGA senate that he specifically picked this year’s members for their excellent qualification and diversity in hopes of having the best board possible.

“Some people I had an idea of who they were, some people I had never met before, and some people I’ve worked closely with in the past," Miller said. "So I think we have a really diverse group who is really going to ensure that the election is run fairly."

According to the SGA Elections Code, the board has full authority over all SGA election matters and is responsible for reporting any violations to the board sheriff, who is then responsible for assessing fines and enforcing campaign regulations.

Miller also said his hopes for this year’s election season is that everything will be handled fairly and equally from both the board and the candidates.

“We want to make sure that everyone has a clear understanding of what the rules are so that they’re not surprised if we say they are in violation. … We want them to understand what the rules are before the whole process starts,” he said.

The elections board has also noted that this year's presidential and vice presidential debates have been combined and will be held at the same time.
