Country artist Chris Young played an audience-centered show at John R. Emens Auditorium Nov. 13—just one day after the release of his newest album.

Young made sure to perform songs from his fifth album, “I’m Coming Over. But he didn’t stop there.

Halfway through the show he made a promise to sign every CD purchased during the show. He said he had never done this in his ten years as a signed artist on RCA Records Nashville.

Many people took Young up on his offer including Riley Garswell, a Ball State alumna. She had originally intended to buy the album at the store.

“I went and got mine before he was done singing,” she said. “We’re staying until he’s done.”

During the show, Young threw his guitar picks into the crowd where fans eagerly awaited a memento from the concert. One of the fans even gave their phone to Young, who took a picture with it.

Kaci Miller, a senior at Ohio State University, appreciated Young’s efforts to connect with the crowd.

“We got the VIP pass so we got to go earlier and he tolds us [that he would sign everyone’s album]. I think that’s really admirable of him,” she said. “And I caught a pick. We were in the front row.”

Miller has attended five or six of Young’s concerts since her freshman year of college.

Young also took a moment at the end of his concert to play some slower songs—just him, his acoustic guitar and his fans.

Country artists Clare Dunn and Eric Paslay opened for Young.
