Nintendo's NX will possibly have 2016 release date

Although Nintendo has been mostly quiet about its upcoming console, the release date is looking like it'll be in the year 2016. Nintendo has been sending out development kits, which suggests that specs are done and developers are conjuring up ideas for games.

According to the Wall Street Journal, "industry-leading chips" will be included with the new system, so it can properly compete with current-gen platforms and convince third-party developers to come back. It also seems like Nintendo wants to combine the stay-at-home nature of the Wii U and the portability of the 3DS, since the NX will have a "mobile unit that could either be used in conjunction with the console or taken on the road for separate use."

The console's controller remains a mystery. However, Nintendo did files for a patent on it earlier this year. Nintendo has been calling its system a "dedicated game platform with a brand-new concept." The announcement for it was first made back in March, along with Nintendo's mobile gaming prospects. At the time, the NX was Nintendo's way of promising that the company had not lost its passion for console gaming. More news on the NX should be coming up within the next year.
