'Destiny' appearing in PS4 libraries without purchase

If you own a PlayStation 4, chances are you have seen Bungie’s Destiny appear in your gaming library.

Many PS4 owners have been reporting that they have the game in their libraries without ever purchasing it. No, it’s not a hack or bug with the system, but rather a promotional effort by Sony for the game. Clicking on the icon for Destiny: The Taken King will take you to the PlayStation Store, where you can either download the game or its demo.

According to PlayStation’s official website, this is part of the PS4’s attempt to bring “personalized, curated content” right to its users.

“The PS4 system has the ability to learn about your preferences. It will learn your likes and dislikes, allowing you to discover content pre-loaded and ready to go on your console in your favorite game genres or by your favorite creators.”

This personalized experience is done through automatic downloads, which was a feature released back in 2014. The console automatically puts content on the home screen to be featured for users.

You can choose to opt out of the automatic updates on your system by going into Settings > System > Automatic Downloads > uncheck Featured Content.
