The Ball State women's tennis team responded from a loss on Feb. 6 to Xavier to defeat in-state opponent Evansville 6-1.

The Cardinals won the doubles point and five singles points. The lone win for Evansville came at No. 3 singles.

In doubles play, the Cardinals' pair of sophomore Rosalinda Calderon and junior Courtney Earnest won an unfinished match 5-1. At No. 2 doubles, senior Courtney Wild and junior Bethany Moore won 6-3 against Andjela Brquljan and Kennedy Craig.

No. 3 doubles ended in a 6-0 score with freshman Olivia Large and sophomore Toni Ormond picking up the win.

Singles play was competitive all the way through despite the lopsided final score. Three of the six matches went into three sets.

Wild, Earnest, Ormond, Moore and Large all picked up singles wins for Ball State.

Senior Ashlyn Rang was the lone Cardinals singles player to fall, losing to Marina Monroe 6-3, 0-6, 6-3.

With the win, Ball State is now 3-2 on the season. The Cardinals will host Bradley at 6 p.m. on Feb. 13.
