The Ball State men’s swimming and diving team defeated Evansville 196-98 Saturday. The Cardinals won 12 of the 16 events and had three event sweeps in the 200 freestyle, 200 fly and 500 freestyle. Ball State also picked up 32 third-place finishes.
Freshman diver Seth Winslow scored a 277.13 in the 1-meter, along with a 231.83 in the 3-meter. Winslow’s performance in the 1-meter was a career-high, improving by over 30 points from his previous record. Freshman Tyler Nock took second in both events, scoring a 243.83 and 230.70.
Senior swimmer Joseph Morris and sophomore Cole Smith combined for four first-place finishes. Morris finished first in the 100 breaststroke, swimming a 57.51 and the 200 breaststroke with a 2:08.97. Combining with Smith, they took first in the 200 and 400 medley relays clocking in at 1:35.28 and 3:10.02. Smith had back-to-back individual victories in the 50 freestyle (21.61) and the 100 free (47.41).
Freshman Isaac Walling also put up individual wins in the 1000 freestyle event, along with the 500 freestyle swimming times of 10:01.60 and 4:54.71.
Freshmen Andrew Carlson and Banistre Lienhart teamed with senior Neal Fennig, combining to win the 200 freestyle, while the sophomore squad of Tanner Barton, Jacob Eckert and Bradley Ridge finished first in the 200 fly. The Cardinals also won the 500 freestyle with a team of Walling, sophomore JD Middleton and senior Andrew Lamb.
Ball State men's swimming and dive will continue its season Jan. 23, hosting a co-ed meet against IUPUI and Milwaukee.
