The Ball State women's volleyball team struggled against Wyoming Friday night, losing 3-1 in the Cardinals second game of the UniWyo Cowgirl Classic.

After dropping the first set 25-16, Ball State tied the match by taking the second set 25-20.

The Cardinals were unable to win another set, however, as the Cowgirls attacked throughout the entire match, applying consistent pressure at the net.

“Wyoming is one of the most physical and athletic teams we will play all season and we gave them a tough battle from start to finish," Ball State head coach Steve Shondell said in a statement. "We are gaining the experienced we need to prepare us for a very tough MAC schedule which begins in three weeks, and nothing replaces experience.”

Ball State struggled offensively, hitting .112 as a team.

Redshirt junior Hayley Benson led Ball State with nine kills. Three other Cardinals recorded seven.

Outside hitter Alex Fuelling totaled 17 digs, while sophomore Nikki Box registered nine.

With the loss, Ball State falls to 3-2 on the season.

The Cardinals will conclude play in the UniWyo Cowgirl Classic at noon on Saturday against South Alabama.
