Playing three games in a two-day stretch is never easy. It makes it even tougher when the opponent is a nationally-ranked team.
The Ball State women’s volleyball team lost 3-0 to the Wisconsin Badgers in the final game of the HotelRED Invitational. The Cardinals ended the tournament with a 0-3 record.
The Cardinals never quit in the match, inching closer to the Badgers in each game. The final score was 25-11, 25-17, and 25-20.
The Ball State offense struggled in the match, hitting just .082 on 26 kills.
Redshirt junior Kelly Hopkins led the team with seven kills on 12 attacks. Sabrina Mangapora was second on the team with five kills. Four other Cardinals recorded at least three kills.
Setter Jenna Spadafora had 22 assists for the Ball State offense.
Wisconsin was able to hit .336 against the Ball State defense. The Badgers had 46 kills in the match.
Starting libero Alex Fuelling led the Cardinals with 14 digs.
Ball State will return to action against IPFW on Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. The team will then travel to play in the VCU Invitational beginning on Sept. 19.
