WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cardinals take MAC opener in 5 sets

The Ball State women's volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 match deficit to defeat Western Michigan 3-2 Sept. 26.

Offensively, the Cardinals used a balanced attack to hit .290 in the match. Redshirt junior Hayley Benson and redshirt freshman Sabrina Mangapora each tallied 16 kills, a career-high for Mangapora.

Redshirt sophomore Mackenzie Kitchel logged 11 kills. 

The Cardinals had six service aces in the match, led by Benson with three.

Junior setter Jenna Spadafora recorded a match-high 55 assists, while also contributing to the win with eight kills and five digs.

Ball State held Western Michigan to a .242 attack percentage on 54 kills.

The Cardinals totaled 15 blocks as a team in the match, with Benson leading the team with two. Benson also added four assists, while Mangapora had five solo blocks.

Redshirt junior Alex Fuelling registered 14 digs, the most of any player in the match.

With the win, Ball State improves to 7-7 on the season and 1-0 in MAC play. The Cardinals return to action at 8 p.m. on Sept. 27 at Northern Illinois.
