The Ball State field hockey team lost for the first time this season, falling 5-0 to an undefeated Syracuse team.

Goalkeeper Shelby Henley faced 20 shots on goal for the Cardinals, saving 15 of them, for a save percentage of .750.

The offense struggled to find the net, with sophomore Merinda Morley, junior Bethany Han and senior Tarel Teach contributing the only shots on goal for the Cardinals.

Ball State head coach Beth Maddox said it was fun competing against an opponent as good as Syracuse, but the team's focus and energy needs to be on Ohio State.

The Cardinals face the Buckeyes at 1 p.m. Sunday in Columbus, Ohio.
