Through one day of play, seniors McCormick Clouser and Zach Yinger have helped keep the Ball State men's golf team in the top half of the field at the Northern Intercollegiate.

The only seniors on the team, Clouser and Yinger both shot par (72) in the first round, tying for 8th individually.

As a team, the Cardinals played well on the front nine, with three players shooting even and one shooting one over par.

Clouser, Yinger and freshman Johnny Watts all shot 36 on the front nine, while fellow freshmen Michael Makris shot 37. 

Markis, shot 37 on the back nine as well staying consistent, finishing the first round 2-over par (74), while Watts finished 4-over par (76).

Junior James Blackwell finished the day 7-over par (79).

The Cardinals finished the first day of action tied for fourth place, at 6-over par (294). Ball State trials Purdue by one point for third.

Last season, Ball State finished sixth at the Northern Intercollegiate.

The Cardinals will be paired with Houston and Louisville when play resumes in the Northern Intercollegiate on Saturday. Blackwell will be the first Cardinal to tee off, starting at 7:31 a.m.
