The Ball State football team lost to Indiana State 27-20 Sept. 13 at Scheumann Stadium, falling to 1-2 on the season.
Ozzie Mann scrambled out to his right and dove to the two yard line with eight seconds remaining on the clock. With no timeouts, the Ball State offense hustled to the line to attempt to spike the ball for one last play. On the exchange, the ball was fumbled by the referee, and the clock expired.
"Ozzie scrambled. [He should have tried] to get out of bounds, so we could have another play or two. I only talked to him briefly, but he's got to get out of bounds," Ball State head coach Pete Lembo said.
Both teams totaled 361 yards of offense, with neither side gaining 100 yards on the ground.
Indiana State quarterback Mike Perish picked apart Ball State's secondary, throwing for 317 yards and three touchdowns.
The Ball State run defense did its job in shutting down the Sycamores running attack, allowing only 44 rushing yards. On the season, the Cardinals have only allowed 247 total rushing yards.
One important factor that is missing from Ball State's defense, however, is the lack of turnovers the unit has been able to force. In three games, the Cardinals have only one takeaway.
"It's nothing we haven't seen before," cornerback Brian Jones said. "Coaches put us in a good position, but we just didn't execute."
