Track & field hires assistant coach

Former Ball State’s men’s track and field and cross country head coach Joe Rogers has been named an assistant coach for the women’s track and field and cross country programs.

“I am absolutely delighted to come back to Ball State and help [head coach Randy Heisler] with the women's program,” Rogers said in a statement.

Rogers’ first stint at the university, which lasted from 1985 until his retirement in 1999, was a successful one.

He helped lead the cross country team to the Mid-American Conference Championship in 1987, winning the MAC Coach of the Year. In 1989 the Cardinals finished the season ranked 14th in the national poll after placing 19th at the NCAA Championships.

He was also named the 1990 MAC and NCAA District IV Coach of the Year.

Most recently, Rogers served as an assistant coach at Army from 2000 to 2012.
