SOFTBALL: Cardinals drop second game of doubleheader

The Ball State softball team dropped the second game of today’s doubleheader to Central Michigan 8-5 in eight innings. With the doubleheader split, the Cardinals are now 10-4 in the Mid-American Conference.

The game was a back-and-forth affair with the lead changing hands four times.

Senior Taylor Rager led Ball State in hits with two, while picking up two RBIs as well. Rager also hit her second home run in as many games, and third baseman Audrey Bickel added a home run. Ball State had 13 total hits in the game.

On the mound, Kelsey Schifferdecker pitched 4.1 innings before being replaced by sophomore Nicole Steinbach. Schifferdecker gave up five runs on seven hits. Steinbach pitched 3.2 innings, giving up three runs on six hits.

Central Michigan hit four home runs in the game, including two in the eighth inning.

Ball State returns to action at 1 p.m. at the Ball State Softball Complex against Eastern Michigan
