Game 2

Ball State won its second of two games on Saturday with an 8-0, five-inning victory over University of Missouri – Kansas City at the Mizzou Tournament.

The Cardinals controlled the game offensively and defensively.

Ball State racked up eight runs on 11 hits while committing no errors. UMKC scored no runs on four hits in the game. A balanced offensive attack was key for Ball State as seven Cardinals recorded a hit.

Leadoff hitter Briana Evans led the way with three hits, while Audrey Bickel had five RBI’s. Kelsey Schifferdecker pitched a complete game shutout, giving up four hits. She also had three strikeouts, only walking two batters.

The win improves Ball State’s record to 17-11. Ball State plays UMKC again at 1 p.m. Sunday, rounding out its tournament schedule.

Game 1

The Ball State softball team bounced back Saturday and registered its first win of the Mizzou Tournament after losing its first two games. Ball State’s Cardinals defeated North Dakota State’s Bison by a score of 6-4.

Ball State played offensively solid, recording six runs on 10 hits. The Cardinals accounted for three errors defensively, but were still able to hold North Dakota State to four runs on six hits.

Audrey Bickel led Ball State’s offense with three hits. Three other Cardinals had two hits, including Jennifer Gilbert and Lauren Schroeder who led the team with two RBI’s apiece.

Nicole Steinbach pitched a complete game for Ball State, facing a total of 32 North Dakota State batters. She allowed the six hits and four earned runs. She also walked five batters and recorded three strikeouts in the game.

Ball State will be back in action tonight against the University of Missouri – Kansas City at the Mizzou Tournament. The game begins at 7:45 p.m.
