Though the Ball State gymnastics team set a season-high mark of 193.025 on Friday, it couldn’t defeat visiting Bowling Green.

“We are getting better little by little, we just have to stay on our game,” head coach Joanna Saleem said.

After setting a season-high mark last week as well, the Cardinals kept momentum rolling. This mainly came as a result of clean floor acts and the vault.

Ball State was able to individually win three events, but the team still came up short as Bowling Green scored 194.150.

“We did alright on our routines,” Saleem said. “We were able to land all routines with no falls”

Saleem wanted to be more consistent throughout the whole meet and the women did just that. They started out strong with vault and bar routines, though Saleem had to make some quick changes before the meet started.

She said they weren’t able to get everyone out in the starting lineup they wanted.

Overall, it was a solid performance from the team. Saleem said they still have more work to do in the gym, but the routines are looking better.

“The details in our routines need worked on,” Saleem said.

The floor routines were a strong point in Friday’s meet. Ball State had four routines that were higher than 9.7 and a performance from Denasiha Christian earned a 9.875.

Saleem said she liked the effort, but it wasn’t enough to get ahead of Bowling Green.

The Cardinals fell to 0-3 in the Mid-American Conference and 2-6 on the season.
