This is the first Mid-American Conference road game for the Cardinals.

Senior Majok Majok is coming off third straight double-double.

Senior Chris Bond scored 18 points last game.

After losing its conference opener to Akron on Wednesday, Ball State travels to Ohio with hopes of earning its first road victory of the season against Kent State.

The Cardinals played arguably its best basketball thus far against the conference champs Wednesday night. Seniors Chris Bond and Majok Majok led the way for the team. Bond scored a team-high 18 points while Majok recorded his third consecutive double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Fellow senior Jesse Berry scored 12 off the bench.

Ball State was expected to lose by 6 points by most stat lines. In a game where the Cardinals regained the lead after a 12-0 run in the middle of the second half, the team lost 68-72. Ball State outrebounded Akron 42-35. The Cardinals also matched the physicality the Zips are known for.

Ohio teams have won every Mid-American Conference championship since 2005. Kent State won the championship in 2006 and again in 2008. The Golden Flashes sit at 9-5, coming off a 59-53 loss to the Ohio Bobcats on Wednesday.

This matchup will be the only between Kent State and Ball State this season. One of two challenges for the Cardinals is containing junior guard Kris Brewer, who is the Golden Flashes’s leading scorer, averaging 11.5 points per game.

The other challenge is matching up with Kent State’s size. The Golden Flashes have nine players listed at 6-foot-5 or taller. Ball State has eight listed, but five play consistent minutes for head coach James Whitford.

Turnovers will have to be limited as well if the Cardinals want its first victory away from Worthen Arena. Freshman guard Zavier Turner finished Wednesday’s action committing five turnovers.

Assisting will be key as well for the Cardinals tonight.
