Ball State will play in the GoDaddy Bowl against Arkansas State on Jan. 5, the university announced today.
Arkansas State is No. 2 in the Sun Belt.
Technically, Ball State has previously played in the GoDaddy Bowl. Following Ball State’s undefeated 2008 regular season, it played in the GMAC Bowl in 2009. In 2011, GoDaddy.com took over the naming rights.
This the second consecutive season Ball State has gone to a bowl game.
Though Ball State has technically played in the GoDaddy Bowl once before, its opponent is quite familiar with the Alabama-based bowl. Arkansas State is making a third consecutive appearance in the GoDaddy Bowl.
Arkansas State fell to Northern Illinois 38-20 in the bowl in January 2012, but defeated Kent State 17-13 in the GoDaddy Bowl this January.
Arkansas State opened its 2013 regular season by losing three of its first five games.
A 62-11 victory over University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff was quickly balanced out on the schedule by a 9-38 loss on the road to Auburn.
Arkansas State followed up with losses to Memphis and Missouri and a win over Idaho to reach a 2-3 record in non-conference play.
It finished its Sun Belt schedule with a record of 5-2 to finish second in the conference. The Red Wolves had three rushers gain more than 500 yards on the season.
The Red Wolves finished the season a 7-5 overall record.
