Superheros to run for Riley Hospital

The Daily News

Superheros will lace up their running shoes Saturday morning for Ball State's Dance Marathon's FT5K run and walk at the Alumni Center.

The event will raise money for the Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. The superhero-themed run is just one of six fundraisers hosted throughout the year by Dance Marathon.

"This theme ties together both our runners and the kids: the ones who have been fighting for their lives and those fighting to save them," said Rachel Janitz, co-director of fundraising.

According to the press release, they will also host Wayland’s Fun Run this year, named in honor of a former Riley Hospital patient, Wayland Villars. The run will be a quarter-mile for children.

Prizes will be awarded for best costumes and most spirited team.

Last year, the event raised $2,000 from more than 150 participants.

In 2013, Dance Marathon accumulated almost $200,000 for the hospital, according to the website. This will be the seventh year the organization has been at Ball State.

Registration for the FT5K event will begin at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, with the run beginning at 10:30 a.m.
