SOCCER: Ball State loses to Colorado College

The Daily News

Ball State soccer dropped the first match on its road trip to Colorado College 2-0.

Though it is the Cardinals second loss on the season, this was the first time the box score supported the result. For the first time in six games, Ball State was outshot—25-1.

Through a scoreless first half, the 2012 Conference USA champion assumed the role of offensive aggressor, something Ball State had been accustomed to doing. The Tigers dominated the scoring opportunities 16-0 but were unable to crack what has been a stout Ball State defense that had allowed only eight shots per game.

Colorado College kept challenging freshman goalkeeper Brooke Dennis with shots, who until this game had kept opponents scoreless in all 246 minutes of her time in a collegiate net.

The Tigers finally broke through in the 66th minute off a goal from a midfielder.

Ball State’s lone shot came from midfielder senior Michelle Blok.

During Ball State’s late push forward to find the equalizer, Colorado College countered and sophomore midfielder Sarah Schweiss dumped in her third goal of the season for the nail in the coffin in the 89th minute.

Ball State will play Air Force (1-3-1) on Sunday. Air Force’s game with Texas was moved to Colorado College’s field, due to field conditions, so Ball State will have the opportunity for one last scout of the Falcons.
