Art Museum has soft opening during Quad Bash

The David Owsley Museum of Art previewed two new exhibits to the public on Friday night.

The museum has been in renovation for nearly two years, adding Indian and African art exhibitions as well as updating existing exhibits.

More than 100 people attended a preview of the newly expanded museum on Friday coinciding with the Quad Bash.

“I thought it was really neat that the museum opened during the Quad Bash. It's fun exploring and I would definitely come back again,” said Michelle Strong, a senior special education major.

Within the first hour of opening, about 100 people walked in, said Tania Said, director of education.

“This is a really great turnout," Said said. "We are glad the Quad Bash has been making many announcements and bringing people in. Everyone seems to be having a great time.”

Visitors had the opportunity to participate in a scavenger hunt around the museum and explore the new art galleries.

A full grand opening event is expected for Sept. 29, which will be free and open to everyone.
