Rastrelli cello quartet performs Tuesday in Sursa

The Daily News

With a goal to perform music “between the genres,” the Rastrelli Cello Quartet will provide a mixture of Bach, George Gershwin and other composers Tuesday evening in Sursa Performance Hall.

The quartet, which was founded in Stuttgart, Germany, in 2002, is comprised of members Kira Kraftzoff, Kirill Timofeev, Misha Degtjareff and Sergio Drabkin, all hailing St. Petersburg, Russia.

“Each is a virtuoso in his own right, and together they play with a sense of musical purpose and personal camaraderie that is infectious,” said an article in Dublin’s The Irish Times.

With works ranging from jazz and pop, to folk and to classical, the Rastrelli Cello Quartet has been touring the world extensively since its inception and its non-traditional programming has acquired much praise along the way.

Strings Magazine described them as “men on a mission. The Rastrelli Cello Quartet, four Russians living in Germany, is out to cross all genres.”

More information is available at the group’s official website, rastrelli.de. There is a shop available to purchase any of their six albums.

The performance will start at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for Ball State students are $5 in advance and $10 at the door, for youth $5 and for adults $18 in advance and $23 at the door.

Group discounts are available.
