Wenning to start against Central Florida in Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl

Junior quarterback missed previous season finale with ankle injury

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – For Ball State fans, the end of the world was only the second most cataclysmic event that could happen on Dec. 21 this year.

The biggest fear came with the possibility of quarterback Keith Wenning not playing in the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl against Central Florida today. Wenning injured his ankle on Nov. 14 in the first half against Ohio and has not played since.

With the game only hours away from kickoff, fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Wenning will start at quarterback for Ball State tonight, the Star Press confirmed with coach Pete Lembo on Thursday.

Wenning has passed for 2,878 yards this season, completing 65.5 percent of his passes and throwing for 22 touchdowns, all career-high marks.

Backup quarterback Kelly Page led Ball State to two wins in Wenning’s absence, throwing for 178 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for another touchdown.
