The Ball State women’s swimming and diving team continued its hot start to the 2012-13 season with its second straight win over a Mid-American Conference opponent.

In its first home meet of the season, Ball State defeated Bowling Green 176.5-117.5 Saturday, which followed the team’s 162-137 road win over Akron on Oct. 27.

Ball State overpowered Bowling Green Saturday, winning five of the first eight events. The team would go on to win 11 event wins in the afternoon, four of them involving junior Haley Richter.

“The girls are showing a lot of consistency in their races from week to week,” coach Kristy Castillo said in a news release. “It is also great to be able to get a win at home.”

The relay team of freshman Larah Beaver, junior Bridgette Ruehl, Richter and sophomore Carlena Magley won the first event of the meet, the 200-yard medley relay, with a time of 1:45.88.

Senior Katelyn Pratt-Collins was the first to get an individual event win for Ball State, winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.25.

Ball State also got wins from Ruehl in the 100-yard breaststroke, Magley in the 50 free and freshman Madie Zirzow in the 1-meter diving.

Ricther’s individual wins came in the 200-yard fly, the 100-yard fly and the 200 IM.

The team’s next meet is at 4 p.m. Friday on the road against Eastern Illinois. The next home meet is the annual Doug Coers Invitational on Nov. 16.
