In an effort to get a different point of view on finance, Ball State’s Finance Society is bringing Mayor Dennis Tyler to campus Tuesday.

The mayor will speak from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in Whitinger Building Room 144 in an event titled “Muncie, je t’aime,” or “Muncie, I love you,” in French. All students are invited.

“It’s just a catchy name,” Dan Boylan, adviser for the Finance Society, said. “It’s just something to catch people’s attention. The mayor, of course, loves Muncie so we want him to talk about Muncie and what’s important in Muncie.”

In the society’s last event, it brought in Mike Cahill, CEO of Tower Bank. Around 200 people showed up to the event, Boylan said.

“We’re bringing the mayor for variety,” Boylan said. “We want our finance students to see people in corporate America, in entrepreneurial America and then in governmental and public service.”

Tyler will speak about financing projects in the city and relocating companies to Muncie.

“It gives a whole different point of view on the finance industry,” said Tucker Olson, officer of target marketing for the Finance Society. “We’re usually speaking more on corporate and entrepreneur points of views in class.”

Boylan said Tyler also will discuss how Ball State students can improve Muncie.

“Most of our students come from some place else,” he said. “They come to Muncie for their four years and then they leave. And I just think it’s important for students to realize that when they’re in Muncie, they can make a great, positive impact on the community.”
